Hello. My name is Sakin Shrestha, and I am a technology entrepreneur from Nepal. I am passionate about helping this sector grow, for many reasons. The technology sector creates jobs for many young Nepalis who would otherwise migrate to foreign countries. It lets Nepali professionals develop skills for a fast-changing global workplace, and compete at a high level with anyone, anywhere in the world. If it grows, it will provide a viable career option for many young Nepalis, and help us reap the benefits of a global economy.
I have started various technology companies. I entered the world of entrepreneurship in 2011 with my first venture, Catch Internet, which provides technology solutions. In 2012, I created Catch Themes to provide premium themes to clients who needed more functionality and support. I also founded DevotePress, a magazine that helps developers with in-depth tutorials. I also ventured into Acclaim Technology, an umbrella organization of seven successful IT companies, formed to ensure a strong technology company that can provide a one-stop solution to our client’s technology needs. Outside the tech arena, I started NepalBuzz, an online magazine that covers all that is ‘buzzing’ in Nepal and Custom “R” Us, a place where you can have custom designs for T-shirts, mugs and many more.
I am also involved in ThemeReview.co, providing excerpt review to themes, together with Justin Tadlock. To help Nepali theme developers access the international market, I have worked to create Theme Palace, a curated marketplace of themes. I also organize regular WordPress meetups and WordCamps in Nepal, and speak at technology events in Nepal and abroad.
On this website, I will share the inside view of a technology entrepreneur working in Nepal. I will write about new developments in the Nepali technology sector. I believe in helping young Nepalis learn, grow and succeed, and will be showcasing young Nepali talents and promoting their work. When I develop any nifty solutions for problems we might encounter in our work with WordPress or with clients, I will share them here.
Being based in Nepal, we work with many challenges including infrastructure, human resources, networks, and access to basic things such as a credit card that works internationally. Working here despite these challenges, the Nepali community is strong, resourceful and resilient. I will be sharing stories of how we have overcome obstacles so others may learn.
I will also be sharing my views on how we can do better, problems we should tackle as a community, and other issues that I feel strongly about. All in the interest of helping our community become strong, and power forward, bringing a whole generation of Nepalis along for the ride.
